

Greg Asbury is known for his creative skills and his visionary ability to see and make connections outside the usual standards of operation. He has launched many successful entrepreneurial ventures in marketing, sports and manufacturing over the past 30 years.
In 1992, Greg founded Smith Asbury Inc, with his partner Judy Smith Asbury. The firm has won many awards for its creative marketing solutions and brand development. Greg serves as creative director for the firm, overseeing design and technology for clients.
Greg is a highly gifted graphic designer and photographer. He uses his creative talents to create original marketing collateral for clients from brochures to trade show displays to books. He is an expert in the use of books as a marketing tool for clients, earning recognition and credibility far beyond normal print collaterals.
His most recent book, Chakra Gardens: Opening the Senses to the Soul has won three major national book awards and has been a effective promotional tool for the Peruvian destination as well as fund-raiser for their foundation. His first book, Rainforests to Flowers, earned a PRSA award for innovative tactics. He designed, photographed and wrote the book to promote the National Flower Gardens of Indonesia and it played a significant role in the successful launch of the cut flower industry in Indonesia.
As a result of his work for SAI clients in Indonesia, Greg became knowledgeable about the country and its unique multi-faceted culture. He played a major role in post-tsunami recovery by creating a trade-after-aid program, “Sustain Sumatra.” A new paradigm for developing countries who have experienced disasters, it connected farmers directly to western consumers with uniquely branded products through distribution channels, re-building communities from the profits derived from the direct trade. He has shared this program with officials of other nations, including Nicaragua.
Trained as an engineer, Greg has enjoyed a career in sports facilities. He served as general manager of the Rose Bowl and assistant athletic director of Stanford University during the 70s and 80s. He oversaw the building, renovation and restoration of multiple sports facilities, generating community support and innovative financing to ensure their success. He became known for his sports management expertise, developing new revenue opportunities for facilities and consulting with the NFL among others.
Greg entrepreneurial ventures include: Carolina Precision Manufacturing, a market leader in computer controlled manufacturing; Medical Sports Inc. providing medical services at the NFL Super Bowl games for the past 15 years; Mocca, LLC, a text messaging firm, known for its text book example of SMS subscriptions for Britney Spears’ 2003 International Tour; Mitra Publishing, a the boutique book publisher, Portland Student Services Inc. an innovative vehicle to provide urban housing in a large metropolitan area and the largest non-profit student housing corporation in the U.S. during his tenure as President and Chairman.
Active in business groups, Greg serves as the President of the American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, West Coast Chapter and on the Board of Governors for the Los Angeles Sports Council.
Greg is an avid photographer and artist, and a student of indigenous healing practices, integrating ancient wisdom and cross-cultural insights with business pursuits.
Greg and his wife and partner Judy Smith Asbury live in Sierra Madre with their 15 year old son. The couple have three grown children as well.
